“Seeing is forgetting the name of the thing one sees." --
Paul Valéry
Light is not a "thing" as such, despite being both particle and wave. Its presence or absence is something we feel innately, seasonally, diurnally. The isolation of light in a dark space has a different effect than that of darkness surrounded by light as in entering a cave or movie theater. Also the color or frequency of light has a profound effect on mood and perception. Light is the paradoxical medium of seeing and forgetting or remembering or both all at once.
